1What the error means
Code 6416 belongs to the event group 6001 to 6438, which SMA documents as "Self-diagnosis – Device fault". During its internal self-test, the inverter detected a malfunction in its own electronics and stops feeding in power as a protective measure. The manufacturer does not attribute an external cause to this code. The exact cause can only be identified by diagnosing the device in the workshop.
2Possible causes
- Fault on an internal control or power board
- Malfunction in a measuring circuit or sensor of the inverter
- Component wear due to ageing or high operating temperatures
- Stress on the device from overvoltages or lightning events
3What to do
- Disconnect the inverter first on the AC side (circuit breaker/switch) and then on the DC side (DC load-break switch). Wait a few minutes and reconnect in the reverse order.
- Check that the installation site is adequately ventilated and that the inverter is not exposed to overheating or moisture.
- Note whether the code reappears and under which conditions (time of day, power output, weather conditions).
- If the fault persists after the restart, the inverter needs to be checked in the workshop.
