1What the error means
Code 6406 belongs to the event group 6001 to 6438, which according to SMA relates to the inverter's self-diagnosis and indicates an internal device disturbance. The inverter stops feeding into the grid for protection and usually does not reconnect. The exact cause can only be identified through diagnosis in the workshop.
2Possible causes
- Fault on a power board of the inverter
- Fault in the control or measuring circuit
- Stress from overvoltage or a lightning surge
- Component ageing due to temperature or humidity
3What to do
- Perform a full restart: disconnect AC and DC, wait at least 5 minutes, then reconnect DC first and AC afterwards.
- Visually inspect the DC cables and connectors of the strings for damage, moisture or signs of overheating.
- If the fault persists after the restart, the inverter needs to be checked in the workshop.
