1What the error means

The Kostal Piko 10.1 is the 10 kW three-phase inverter of the first Piko generation — one of the most widespread units in Greek installations of the 2010s. Most of them now have more than ten years of operation behind them, and their faults are typical of their age: they can almost always be repaired, without needing replacement.

The three that reach our bench most often:

  • “xxx” on the display — the inverter has voltage but stays off, usually at around 100,000 kWh. In detail: Kostal Piko — “xxx” display.
  • Error 835 — shutdowns when the power rises above 3–4 kW, due to leakage currents. In detail: Kostal Piko — error 835.
  • Capacitor wear in the DC link and in the power supplies — shows up as unstable operation, random restarts or errors that do not persist.

2Possible causes

  • Capacitor ageing after 8–12 years of continuous operation
  • Fault on the control board or its internal power supply
  • Wear in the power stage from thermal stress, especially on units installed in hot rooms
  • Leakage currents from the PV generator that the inverter no longer tolerates as it did when new

3What to do

  1. Note exactly what the display shows — a code, “xxx”, or nothing — and when it happens (morning, midday, after rain).
  2. One restart from the grid breaker, with a 2–3 minute wait.
  3. If the problem returns, send us the inverter: the diagnosis is done in the lab, with the unit under load, and you are informed of the fault and the cost before anything is started.

4Repair by Aineas

You send the inverter to our lab in Thessaloniki. We diagnose it, inform you of the fault and the cost, and the repair starts only after you approve it. Every inverter is tested under simulated operating conditions before delivery.
